GHAZAL* FOR SAN JOSE

by Christopher Patrick Nelson

This city sacrifices its young men to Law, a lie.
I say a little prayer each time a cop car passes by.

The sky tonight is blue, so blue it's black, and that's the Mark
Of men who murder legally. A cop car passes by.

But maybe milk will look suspicious to the Antichrist.
His system fills the quotas now. A cop car passes by.

The mini-mart where they give tickets but do not receive.
The papers say they shock odd days.   A cop car passes by.

His M-16 the kind Jews use in Palestine to rule,
And Christopher is shocked. He prays -- a cop car passes by.

*A ghazal is a Persian poetry form.
