I was sitting in the courtroom when the Ònot guiltyÓ verdict dropped, and I couldn't believe my ears. What was most surprising to me, was that I was surprised that I was surprised at the verdict. I have never had faith in the justice system, and usually I would be the first one to profess ÒThis cop's gonna get away with it!Ó but there was something different about this trial. The difference for me was knowing the daughters and family of Rudy Cardenas and also sitting in the courtroom and following the case. My heart goes out to the family, I seen first hand, all the heartache and struggle that they have gone through this past year to seek justice for Rudy. It was their good spirits and positive outlook that kept me from being negative and gave me hope that justice could prevail. Sitting in the courtroom, it was so clear to see that Michel Walker was guilty. His side of the story was faulty and didn't match up, there were even credible witnesses that testified against him, stating that Rudy was not a threat when Walker shot him in the back in cold blood. Over all, the prosecuting attorney had convincing evidence, from surveillance videos to eye witnesses proving that Walker was guilty. During the trial, I couldn't help but think about the jury, and what there decisions might be. All I know is that they where listening to the same ÒbullÓ defense that I was. That's what made the verdict so shocking to me, it was so obvious that Michel walker was guilty that it even had a skeptic like me convinced that he was going to be convicted.
