The Moods Are Simple
Poem by Matt Whelan
Art by Thuy Ngo

the moods
are simple like
crayola crayons
and building blocks
they're easily discharged
and even easier
to immerse yourself within
these trivial feelings
that seize us
with gripping unrelent
look outside at
the clouds
and those shedding trees
or even that brooding moon
that looms overhead
this is life
charging forth
in its various permutations
and rhythms
emerging precariously
at any moment
so become a fool for it
and trip along its
generous contours
lie down and muse
in its blessed warmth
allow it to surge you
back to life
