John Legend is Changing Music As We Know It

San Francisco, CA -- In a time when the turning on of the radio might cause you to be made aware of how much money and how many girls today's rap and R&B artists have, John Legend delivers good music that can be heard by a large of music lovers.

Singer-songwriter and pianist, and Grammy winner, John Legend has become the modern day Marvin Gaye. It is his smooth moves and soul-filled vocals that are attracting fans and top name artists as well. Legend has done a great number of vocal and piano work for some of the industry's well know artists, such as Jay-Z, Lauren Hill, Kanye West and many more.

Legend recently brought smooth and influential sound to the Warfield in San Francisco on November 17 th . His performance was meet with a full house, which most people paid extremely high prices from ticket scalpers to go see. So the big question of the night had to be, “Was it worth it?” For most people around me it seemed to be. “John Legend came through and delivered a solid show,” 22-year-old Jose Duenas from San Jose said after watching the performance. Duenas paid $160 for his pair of tickets off of Craig's list, but felt that it was well worth it.

The crowd was filled with a wide variety of people ranging in age and race. One could see a 60-year-old couple holding each other as they swayed to “Slow Dance,” one of Legends highly popular songs, as well as a seventeen year old jamming out to “Stereo,” one of Legends more up-beat songs. One of the things that make John Legend so appealing to such a broad audience is the fact that he has all of the elements that a good real musician should be composed of. He has a good voice, nice moves, catching, yet relatable lyrics. It is, in fact, his lyrics that are a big part of his success, people can relate to his music, something that is very rare now-a-days. I don't know to many people that can relate to having a fancy house, a handful of women and are out shooting people on an everyday basis. And it is not only in the rap world that this is apparent, but R&B as well, the degrading of women and consumption of drugs and alcohol can be heard in many of R&B's top singles.

And Legend, along with Kanye West, are not only changing the music scene, they are changing fashion. Their nice clean style that are making it popular for men to dress in proper dress attire, rather than over sized jeans and big jackets. Now, a nice dress shirt with a Cashmere sweater is looked upon as “getting your grown man on” and not so much as dorky or preppy. It is good to see people actually dressing their age, and breaking away from that life style of street and hood, because lets face it most of the people that listen to artists such as West, and Legend and even Jay-Z are not living those types of life style.

Over all, Legend managed to deliver a solid performance and has been able to bring a sense of good music, which has been lacking in a lot of peoples minds. You can see you self 20 years from now going to see John Legend as one of the greats, like people now still going to see Earth Wind and Fire, or Al Green today. Because really, you can't really see yourself jamming out to 50 Cent at age 40 now can you?
