THE FREEWAY

Stoplights halt my progress as a person
In the neighborhood of ignorance.
The Devil carjacks me,
And I'm driven to back alleys of shame.
In this sweaty ghetto,
What can pass over but the overpass,
What free me but the freeway?
Allah's love, like the autobahn in Germany,
Needs no speed limit,
Covers even the poorest states,
Takes to where I can see the stars again.

(Christopher Patrick Nelson)
