Question of the Week:

Stanley Tookie Williams, co-founder of the Crips gang, was convicted of murder and has spent over 25 years in prison. He is currently a death row prisoner and since being incarcerated has become an internationally recognized leader for peace. He was has written several books about the lessons he has learned throughout his life and has been nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize. He has been given an execution date of December 13th, 2005. A coalition has formed to save Tookie from being executed. What is your opinion on the movement to stop his execution? On what grounds should he or shouldn't he be pardoned?

i know dat he was accused of many mureders but i believe he was truley sorry and even if he wasn't sorry so what that is not for us to judge or take his life it is up to God so why did those pricks put
him to death wankers

My feeling is that Tookie did commit 3 murders, prooven. More than likely he commited more. I understand what it is to have a family member brutally and coldly stripped from your life and do not
simpithize with Took. I feel that he should have spent the rest of his life in prison, to die in prison, but not to be killed in prison. A life for a life is old and backwards, primal and evil in base. He was worth more to us alive than dead, should have been allowed to continue his work. But serving his time. You cant put a price on life no matter what that life is.

I believe that Tookie Williams should not have been executed. Ok look there is no full proof evidence that the man committed the crimes. It could have been wrong place wrong time, and then on the other hand he has so called people who snitch on him. Im not making excuses but the man was almost a Nobel Prize Winner. None of u on this blog can even fathom what that means, and he also did it while under incarceration. I also believe that the death penalty is wrong and whoever pulls the
lever or injects the person should also be charged for murder. I also believe that the only reason that Tookie is being held is the fact that he is the co leader of a very powerful group of people. Heres a
question. How would you feel if it was you. Everyone was against you, and you were so young when it happened. What if u didnt do it, it was just a case of wrong place wrong time. Then u were sentenced to death with no valid evidence, Later showed signs of growing up and being nominated for a very prestigous award, only to find out that you were to be executed anyways. Its wrong. Things change people change. I dont care if you dont like my opinion. Its how i feel and i will not back down. Tookie was a good man deep inside. And to crosby_princess the jailer. U deal with the crap inside the cell
everyday. Maybe for one minute u should think outside these walls. Not everyone in the joint is a bad person.

I come from a christian backround where capital punishment has always been upheld as the final extent of justice, especially when the person commiting the crime is of color. I do not believe in the brutality of execution any longer and I hope people recognize the extent to which race still motivates politics and that people will see the connection.

After reading many articles by him and about him, I question the verdict that jailed him for 24 years and has now lead to his death. For 24 years he has maintained innocence, and many judges, including
two in the supreme court, had asked for appeals to be granted. But this never happened. I hope people recognize the extent to which race still motivates politics and that people will see the
connection. I think he was a person who started a gang to create a family of sorts on the streets, and that spun into what we now have. I think he saw this and tried to do what he could to fix the bad
decisions that he made in his youth. I had prayed he would be granted clemency, but this did not happen. so i question everyone who supports the death penalty and this execution if they can be sure
that this man was the person who committed this crime? I dont belive that anyone can answer that besides him and the new witnesses that have come up within the past few days.

I think the sentence a jury of his peers concluded should be delivered. Regardless of what has happened since (or perhaps Given what's happened since 1981) he should be held responsible for his
actions.

He should die for his crimes. i have ask some people if he should die
and the only ones letting him live are the ones that don't have that
much sense. he and other inmates always try to blame others when they
should look in the mirror and blame themselves. that is a real man
when you can stand up and say yes i did that. now i must take my
punishment. he is so lucky he is not in another country where they
would have killed him many years ago.. enough said an eye for an eye.
how many eyes did he take (8).

No, now this is just wrong, to take another persons life. Thats up to the Lord if it is his time to go. I do not believe in killing. So he should not get the death penalty. I am 100% against it.

You really have no reason to execute this man because you have no evidence he murdered those people and if he did its not the goverments responsibilty to take the power of life or death in anybodys hands because by killing him u would be a murder to witch would make the goverment or anybody else have to kill you because if he is guilty you would be guilty of the same reason your killing mr.stanley tookie williams now wait i am not say let him out of jail or any thing if it was him then sure make him do his time till god chooses wether tookie lives or dies i think this is a very good but long reason u should not exacute him.

thank you for hearing me out and say hi to him for me (he dont know me but tell him i said alot of people are with him )i would really love to hear from him thank you agian good luck tookie peace out

First of all he helped start one of the most notorious gangs in California. Which even today kills, beats, rapes, and robs 100's and 100's of people. He MURDERED 4 innocent people for a sum of 700$. So what if he's written a couple childrens books. He deserves to die a slow and painful death.

I believe that Mr.Williams as done his time and should not be on death row do to the fact there are people in prison now that have done worse or as bad has Mr.Williams and are either out already or getting out at some point. I also believe the one of the only reasons they want Mr. Williams on death row because he is the co-founder of the crip gang. But if he was anyone else he would be on his way home by now.

I am outraged at the thought that people think this person should not be executed. I don't believe he has any remorse for his actions. He blames everyone and everything for him being in prison and on death row. Those poor people that he murdered in cold blood are the ones who should be thought of and remembered. The panic they probably went through knowing they were going to die and suffer a painful death. The shear mental tourture they suffered, all at the hands of this (so called) man. What he knows now is that he can come up with a "children's book" to keep himself from being excuted. Come on people, give me a break! How stupid can people be! Any gang member in prison can write a book.

I work in a Florida prison and see this type of criminal everyday. They have 24 hrs. a day to think of ways to con and that is just what this man has done.

Well i am so against gangs because my brother was killed by a gang, but i try not to hold anything against them for doing what they did to my brother but i do beleive he should not die but i think he needs to spend his life in prison. I do not feel he needs to be let out at all..... I mean who are we to say who dies? that is up the our Lord and Savior Jesus. I hope he lives and if he does lives that he continues to teach and PEACE while in lockdown. thanks for letting me share this

I believe he (Tookie Williams) should not be executed; yes what he did was very wrong and against God's will, but his actions were at a young age and life in prison and having to live with his guilty conscience should be his punishment. He knows he's wrong; he has remorse for his actions. He's trying to change what he has created in a positive way by writing books for children to give them the knowledge to go down the right path and not choose gang life. What he did was very wrong, but he has changed his life for the better even being in prison. He could have stayed the way he was in the Gang life, but he chose not to.
