San Jose Homeless Vs. City Hall
Photo Essay by Richard Babcock

In honor of National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week, Community Homeless Alliance Ministry (CHAM) organized a vigil to end homelessness on Tuesday evening, November 15, 2005 at San Jose City Hall.America and Silicon Valley have the resources to end homelessness today. In cities across America, the ÒHousing FirstÓ program has been implemented and has been proven effective.   Why not here in San Jose? What is lacking is the political will.At the action, CHAM members called for extremely low-income housing units to be constructed or subsidized.   San Jose doesn't need baseball parks or luxury buildings...

Hey Richard,
Your photos look good. I especially like the one of Sister Adrianne. Thanks for doing this photo essay. CHAM'S story definitely needs to be heard.
