What Does it Mean To Be A Woman?
A question that many women asked themselves. Some have a routine to be beautiful because it was what they were taught, others struggle with it while being incarcerated. But being in or out women can say what it means to them in so many ways. The women of workfurlough express what it means, what it takes and who taught them how to be just what they are: A woman.

There is Nothing More Beautiful Than Being a Woman
Story By Jodi Kerswell

Being a woman is such an amazing gift. There is nothing more beautiful. Women are loving, nurturing, giving, and fragile. We are like bears protecting our cubs, but also like flowers blooming in the spring air. The most incredible woman I know is my mother. I only hope to be as great of a mother as she has been to me. She is a beautiful woman that I inspire to be.

Grandma Showed Me How
Jennifer Temon

My grandma showed me how to be a woman, how to be a ÒladyÓ and how they should carry themselves. I have carried those morals and values with me that I was taught when I was a child, one of them is to have respect for yourself and respect for others.

Respecting Yourself
Megan Goodeill

Being a woman to me means to be honest, true, loving, caring and understanding. A woman to me means to be a good role model for my children, to raise them right with respect and morals. A lady or a woman to me starts with respecting ourselves.

ÀMe gusta ser mujer? Porque una mujer tiene muchas cualidades

Marta E. All‡n

I Have Been Struggling on How To Be A Woman, Now I'm Giving Lessons.
Lidia Jimenez

I'm a woman. I grew up without a mom, so I always struggled with being a woman. But, thanks to the De-Bug class and a poem written by Liz Ð I can truly learn to value my womaness. I'm a strong woman that has survived. I'm a good mother who has faught to give my children a good future. I'm a woman that fell, but has gotten up and dusted myself up. I always felt I didn't fit in with most girls because I personally don't like to sit around and gossip or talk about people like most girls do. I admire a lot of women and honestly believe we should stick together and not fight against each other. So, I guess my worries about me not being a good mother to my daughter will not exist any more. I want to teach her to be a woman just like me. I have a lot of lessons that I've learned that I can teach her. Maybe the only thing that will be different is for her not to cuss and sit with her legs crossed.
