At the End of This Poem
Poem by G.Melesaine Leasiolagi // art by Thuy Ngo
I want to die at the end of this poem
When the seraphs song stops serenading
When my heart stops competing with the sky,
for it is too immensely open
And it is only its visual chastity that I can bathe in
When the cascades of my eyes spill no tears
Only to drown all chance to dream
Lifting the subtle nothings that have been
living for me.
I want to die at the end of this poem
When those who doubt our depth of compassion
reign in martyrdom for their distrust
And our long swim for freedom baptizing our sins
only drowns us
Revolution means nothing. We mean nothing.
The blood we shed only glitters like the gold of the sunrise
perpetrating as a beautiful death.
When my run for words lose breath
and my mind is no part of me that I can say I marvel
I want to die at the end of this poem
When that incessant rhythm that my voice produces, dies on me
and I can no longer breathe.
