Math Exams...
Poem by Joseph Chambers // Art by Thuy Ngo

I'm currently contemplating a resolution
for world hunger.
She's thinking about dying,
while I'm wondering,
"what the hell am I going to eat tomorrow?"
She lives in a dreadful dream,
but she doesn't realize
that her bestfriend used to be homeless...

These stars smell funny tonight,
it's so hot out right now...
Around 4 A.M., and she's pissed
because I cussed her out.
I swear to God I hate this girl,
and that's why she's my bestfriend.
She doesn't know what a tough problem is,
besides the ones on her math exams...

A pretty, white, suburban girl...
I blame life on God. (It's a joke.)

While she was smiling,
I was crying...
it seems like things have changed.
I used to have to steal poptarts for lunch,
it's pitiful.
She thinks she isn't worth anything,
it's just not right.
I need to release this anger held within
this right fist...
I wish I could see her face...
Her face beyond this night mist.

I think suicidal tendencies
are sympathetic excuses
for becoming a soft motherfucker
now a days...
Oh, I love her,
but she doesn't understand life in itself.
I feel alone right now,
wondering what's going through her dreams.
I know her god damn ass fell asleep.
Her problems...
her stupid problems.
