Cousins
by Christopher Patrick Nelson

Her lips are like gefilte fish in strips,
The teeth within her smile like Torah scrolls,
And Middle-Eastern eyes resemble tips
Of candles in menorrahs lit with souls.
Brown eyebrows thick as a phylactery,
Cheeks white as tallit- shawls that we both wear Ð
What's not to like? And she won't claim to see
Ellah, Allah, our God, performing pray'r.
Though Crystal, Silver, Diamond, and Gold
Get U.S. dues, shoot Uzis into us,
She's a warm-hearted Jewess, never cold,
And like a rabbi, raises up a fuss,
Red in the face for the folk of Palestine Ð
My olive-lovely cousin, how you shine.

*Muslims call Jews and Christians cousins in faith. Each believe
in the Torah, a Scripture given to Prophet Moses, peace be upon
him, though Muslims say it was altered over time. Ellah is Hebrew
for Allah. Most Christians say God prayed to Himself. (Matthew 26:39)
Many protestors against the Occupation of Palestine I've seen are Jews.
