It's All a Dog Fight
In America, way before I was born, or the NFL existed, there was something called an auction block, a human auction block. This is where slaves were to be showcased to an audience so they can bid on which slave they thought would be accessible or of value towards their monetary desires. Monetary desires meaning how much cotton can this slave mass produce for the owner. Since the auction block was a visual showcasing, slaves would be forced to present themselves nude so the prospects could see how physically fit he/she was, and because they were stripped of their clothes and their humanity they were no longer were people, they became products. Something I learned about marketing is the 4 P's, product, pricing, placement, and production. The product was the key though, so with that, they would do whatever it took for the slave to be visibly physically fit with training, exercises, oil for shine, and whatever they could do for the highest bid. After slaves were bought off the auction block, they were brought back to the plantation where there was also internal slavery, where slaves would compete against each other to become the masters "pet" or make it into the masters house, which was the ultimate. Years later, we have what some people call the NFL or the National Football League. This is where men, usually of color, train to do whatever they can to be drafted into football teams so they can work the football fields and produce the most points. Those who draft them are usually white men. Football is a sport where people are entertained by a battle between two teams, players have to deal with being hurt and almost being killed, constantly battling each other while the crowd gets incited. They fight to get to the Super Bowl, which is the ultimate. On the contrary, they also receive fame and an immeasurable amount of money, but never as much as the owners. As William lynch, a plantation owner from slavery days who actually wrote about how to control slavers, would say "give them just enough." The NFL has become a way to escape financial troubles for most of the players and getting paid to play a sport they've come to love with all the extras. Sometimes I wonder if the same love for the sport would be there if there was no money and fame involved? Now comes dog fighting, where people train dogs to fight and it incites and entertains the trainers/audience like Michael Vick while they place their bets on which dog will kill the other dog and how well they've trained them enough to win. Which brings me to certain correlations since Michael Vick is an African-American and a NFL football player who is being persecuted through the media right now, I think they're are far more liable people that should be persecuted than him but they never will. This is not a matter of animal cruelty to me but another way for the media to cover up other cruelties going on in America. Of course its wrong that dogs die in the fights, as it is when children die in Darfur, but you'll never hear PETA or the Humane Society being as compassionate about that. I think there's a much bigger problem in America than this and for this to blow-up as big as it did just showcases Americas morals and ethics. It's a sad thing in America when there are children out there who would honestly trade lives with Paris Hilton's pet dog.
