Paint and Brush
Poem by Gopal Lahiri // Art by Thuy Ngo

Your large portrait

hanging on the yellow trimmed wall

when i look at the golden frame

and the embroidered boundary

i still smell the fragrance of a

myriad of oddly shaped flowers

blossoming on the side table tapestry

producing its own love and light

and on a deeper level, it's calmness, the peace

the quiet beauty restores your faith

as you sit and be surrounded by their

presence and soothing effect germinate

in another world hiding the pitches and rolls

of your mind beneath the exterior

of your charming face and the dark hair

cascading down whipping the grief and pain

as if ripples in a calm and serene lake

leaving no other choice but to

reflect on the contours of birth and death

of life so curtailed on this glowing earth

the solace and comfort come from

the paint and the brush breathing into life

and light a lamp in the corner of my heart.
