Spirit
Poem by Anamul huq
Art by Thuy Ngo

It was a creepy afternoon
when I dared the wood
into a raucous welcome
by the dedicated host,
some winged other deprived
some solemn, few afraid
some kindly yet unfriendly,
and the spirit beside me
was a puzzling shape
that guided my step,
leads me to unknown deep
wild flower's with many color's
covered the jagged cliff.
When golden sunlight embraced the scene,
ground was a pale gray, patterned upon green.
tired windy path was rarely trodden
littered with scattered leaves aged brown,
kissing the both edge was the ivied crown
like a sacred entrance to the heaven.
But something wasn't right
as I looked back in fright,
there was nothing within sight
except for the ragged worn body
lying on the chair of my study.
A soft quivering hymn
whispered in my ears,
that it is time
through that gate
your path is set,
and I stared at the spirit
that was death.
