Cornering the Market
Curbside Vendor Set Up Shop

The curbside Mercados, where folks are selling all types of fruit and vegetables have been setting up shop all over San Jose, from Willow Glen to the East Side. I spoke to several people, who all pointed to the lack of work here as the reason for selling fruit on the sidewalk, and they all spoke of their desire to return to their country soon. All the folks were a little weary of me, worried that I would lead them to be arrested or worse, but they disguised their concern in humor and overall they were eager to talk and have a conversation with someone, telling me about their lives back home and even asking me about my own family.
