Television Heads vs. the Book Babies
Story by Thuy Ngo and Art by Thuy Ngo and Fernando Amaro Jr.

Sipping coke in the red box town, in well, the town. Sammy observed the folks in the town as they passed on their everyday mundane routes in existence -- each family with their tele-box or set of books. In this town there were the television heads and book babies, which split the town in half. Some folks in the town would be glued to pictures of people in ideal life situations and dazzling white smiles. The box would contain the happiness they lack, the turmoil they want, and the riches they'll never have but in the box of their television set.

The book babies as well are not so much in the clear of this tempting dream. We find them hiding from the world, wanting to escape from an all too mundane reality to pages promised to deliver the expected or unexpected they all so lack. They live through pages of adventure, happiness, loving romance in this altered state, a fabricated world where another page, chapter or book would continue this undying fantasy. Ultimately, the two: television heads and book babies share this need to be fulfilled without knowing it. "A dream deferred?" A dream flipped clicked, borrowed, or rented for the next hour or two.

A town where all are consumed by their own thoughts and pretenses. A young man lived who saw beyond what they saw. Sammy was indeed a book babie. His dad a television head.  How this comes about? No one knows....
