Should Sagging be Illegal?

Story by John Robert Tuimavave // illustration by Wesley Vara

In Richmond, Virginia lawmakers drafted a bill also known as ÒThe Droopy Drawers BillÓ that would make it illegal for anyone who is caught with their boxers, brief and thongs showing above pants or skirt. The House passed the bill.    The following is a commentary by John Robert Tuimavave, an Independence High School student, on what he thinks about the law.

From my perspective, sagging is not even crime. Someone should not get fined for it. Sagging pants is just a small fashion statement for most. For most people sagging their pants doesn't mean that they are in a gang and it doesn't mean that they are hardcore. They are just people trying to state they have style. If the law would pass in San Jose the lawmakers and the Governor would be breaking the law themselves. The law of freedom. Freedom to wear want we want to wear and what we want to dress like is our right.   I strongly disagree with a law that fines people for sagging their pants, because the biggest thing that they are sporting is their individuality.
