Walls of Perception
Photo Essay by Richard Babcock

Walls have been a subject of mine almost from the beginning of my involvement in photography. They have a special meaning to me. Walls symbolize obstacles in my life. Obstacles such as drug abuse and graduating from college and dealing with my disability. Photographing walls helps me focus on the idea of an impediment to my progress. But when I take a picture of a wall I try to make it beautiful and interesting. This helps me realize and accept that there are difficulties in life and to put the best light on them as possible. Even if I can't get around or over a wall I can look at the beauty or interesting design and enjoy life for what it is at the moment.
