eternal purgatory
caught within the fiberglass crevices
of banality
of his and her
and your everlasting limitations
incisor marks pressed
into soft supple flesh
blue blood kissing oxygen
leaking out red frustrations
hell is evident
in the same hollow faces
settled in their sockets
ashen ambition
filtering their cigarettes
burning toward the mouth of the wind
in the conformity that is detested
simultaneously ingested
produced quickly at mass demand
heaven is untouchable
in knowing truth
because you saw it
in his fingertips
exploding brilliance onto spun canvas
angels leaping out their woven bonds
in the selfish absorption
of knowing there is more
than the brick wall you see before you
it is this perpetual limbo
that settlement becomes accepted
and even buying your birthright indulgences
cannot carry you out
of this mishapen hole
even this is mimicked
forced devotion into
touching Icarus's molecules
drinking in his life force
to hope to rise in his likeness
and even plummet
just as fiercely
because his tainted hand touched
divinity for a second
