MAY 2008 FEATURED PHOTOGRAPHER

CHRIS KISELA

MY NAME IS: Chris Kisela

HOW I GOT INTO PHOTOGRAPHY: When I was a junior in high school my sister bought me an old Canon AE-1 that I still use on occasion

MY MOST FAVORITE PICTURE IS: I like them all for one reason or another. If I had to pick one, it would have to be the photo of the abandoned building looking out the window. It came out just as I had imagined it would.

WHERE I FIND INSPIRATION FOR MY PHOTOS: Generally I look for the oddities in nature, things that others may look over for some reason or another. There are so many things we take for granted. It's nice to stop awhile and take a detour. Who knows, you might find something amazing at the end of the road.

WHAT I LIKE ABOUT THE DARKROOM: The darkroom is special in that you work so hard for a print and may end up making several drafts trying to get the look you want. It's once you make that final print that makes it worth the time and effort.

HOW I SEE MYSELF GROWING IN PHOTOGRAPHY: I currently go to school at De Anza. I'm enrolled in their photography program (which is great). I also spend a lot of time working on photos both in the darkroom and on the computer. I look at photos from a while back and see where I made mistakes and try to learn from them

SHOUTOUTS: Yea definitely. My sister, Renee Camacho for always being there for me, My Mom, Ed Garrigus. Without him, There is no chance of me being where I am today. Also De Bug for offering such an amazing community based program. I would also like to thank anyone that has helped me along the way.

WHAT THE DARKROOM LIKES ABOUT CHRIS: That he's hella enthusiastic about photography and has a cool eye for things that can get lost in the fray if you're not mindful about what you're looking at.
