MAY 2008 FEATURED PHOTOGRAPHER

BENJAMIN CECIL

MY NAME IS : Benjamin L. Cecil

HOW I GOT INTO PHOTOGRAPHY: I found my dad's old Nikkormat (i think that's right?) in high school and took a couple interesting rolls of b&w before the shutter mechanism broke. I had wanted to get back into photography for a while, but have only recently been able to afford it.

WHERE I FIND INSPIRATION: My inspiration usually comes from trying to capture beauty in what is considered plain or from trying to capture a new perspective on something that is already considered beautiful.

WHAT I LIKE ABOUT THE DARKROOM: The Darkroom has very helpful staff :D and good equipment.

WHERE I SEE MYSELF GOING WITH PHOTOGRAPHY: Hopefully I hone my photography skills enough to sell my work so that I can subsidize some of my law school debt.

SHOUTOUTS: I want to honor my grandfather Louis, whom I never met but from whom I received any artistic talent I may have.

WHY THE DARKROOM LIKES BEN: His photos have peace in them and the closer you look at them, the more gets revealed to you. Plus, he always spreads love about the Darkroom, and is just the right height for our darkroom equipment.
