MAY 2008 FEATURED PHOTOGRAPHER

ANTOINETTE LUZANO

MY NAME IS: Antoinette Luzano

HOW I GOT INTO PHOTOGRAPHY: I think I've been into photography since I was really young. I can remember my first camera, a pink Barbie camera, and I carried it around with me everywhere until one day when I broke it. Over the years, I built up my camera collection, but it wasn't until earlierthis year when I took my first Photo 1 class at De Anza that I began making my own prints.

MY FAVORITE PHOTO IS: At the moment, one of my self-portraits. Seriously. Not because I'm in it, but because it didn't feel like I was just snapping a random picture -- I put a lot of thought into it, so it turned out really personal.

WHERE I GET INSPIRATION FROM IS: I have no idea. I think I'm just constantly learning and taking in everything that's around me.

WHAT I LIKE ABOUT THE DARKROOM: I love darkrooms and printing in general because when you get to control every aspect of the photo you're taking, it actually feels like YOUR picture. De-Bug feels like a tight-knit community where you can learn something from everyone.

WHERE I THINK MY PHOTOGRAPHY WILL TAKE ME: I'm not planning on going into photography as a career, but I'm definitely going to continue it as a hobby. Eventually, I want to try medium format, and later on learn to develop color film/prints.

WHAT THE DARKROOM LIKES ABOUT ANTOINETTE: She's quiet, but she's thoughtful and super observant about the world and it reflects in her photos. :)
