Life on the Line in Silicon Valley
Manufacturing and assembly workers -- many of whom are in their early 20's -- are the ones who keep Silicon Valley humming. They earn above minimum wage, but well below the estimated cost of living in the Valley. They have no benefits, job security or formal training.

Women in Charge This Woman's Work
From across the assembly line, the bathroom floor and the front lobby of high tech companies, three reporters file from the frontlines of Silicon Valley --from women's perspective. Even as Silicon Valley leads the world into the next millennium, women are still the ones who clean up after everyone leaves, put the final touches on the products before they get shipped off, get the coffee and courteously answer the phones in their skirts and blouses.

Redevelopment and technology in Silicon Valley has caused people to look critically at the effects around them. While job security still lingers in some people's minds, others see security guard jobs standing secure but under appreciated. We also see how folks in other countries see us differently since 9/11.
What side do I work on? As many people still struggle to find a steady job after being laid off in S.V. some are using their spare time to catch up on educational skills to work the non tradtional jobs. New technology is also pushing its way onto the scene. Many look at this as a good way to get a job, others fear they are it is costing them their values.

When you walk down the streets of San Jose you can see the diversity here. But many things come along with being from another race. Not just racism but experiencing things like living without a home and working in high tech and realizing that's not where you want to be.
