WHAT IS DE-BUG:

Silicon Valley De-Bug is a publication made by young workers, writers, and artists in Silicon Valley. We are sponsored by the non-profit Pacific News Service. De-Bug began by examining our own work experiences on high-tech's low wage assembly lines. We continue to publish stories and pictures on youth and working people's perspective on Silicon Valley life. We are a platform for the unheard voices of Silicon Valley's young and temporary.

WHY DE-BUG:

Silicon Valley De-Bug uses art, writing, and dialogue to allow youth and workers to educate each other. Our publication is a confirmation that people here have the capacity to make social change. We provide a space for people to think critically on their experiences and how it relates to the world around us...near and far. By showing that everyday stories and struggles are important, we are helping to create a culture of organizing and inspire a rage to take action.

DE-BUG offers three workshops:

Writing/Art:
This session is for folks interested in using writing and art as a form of reflection and expression. No prior experience is required. Our workshops last from 1-2 hours and can stand alone or be part of the workshop series. We prepare subject matter based on the interests and issues of the participant group. The workshops are a way to produce writings, but also a vehicle to dialogue on the experience of the participants and how it connects the world we live in. We can also publish the work on our web or in our magazine.

Know Your Rights:
Young people are often taken advantage of in the workplace. De-Bug offers training on your rights as an employee. We focus on three areas:

Wages and hours
Health and Safety
Discrimination

This session goes for one and a half hours, and involves roleplays on how to problem-solve with issues at work.

Critical Thinking in Silicon Valley:

The staff has developed a 1 1/2-hour interactive session which allows participants to reflect on issues many young people face in Silicon Valley while also learning information about the "new economy." It is designed to initiate conversation on social and political issues many young people face in Silicon Valley, and to provide needed information to begin the dialogue on ways to better our communties. This is a helpful way for groups outside the South Bay to better understand issues in Silicon Valley.
